Who runs Sip
Sip is a water tracker for Android made by Noko Labs. If you have a question about this policy or want your data deleted, write to nokolabs.dev@gmail.com.
Sip has no account, no sign-in, no ads and no analytics or crash reporting tools.
What stays on your phone
- Your water log: today's date and how many millilitres you logged. It is never sent anywhere.
- Your settings, such as night mode.
- A random id that Sip creates on first launch and only uses for the Ideas board. It is not your Android ID, your advertising ID, your phone number or your name.
If Android backup is turned on, Android may include this data in your own Google account backup. Uninstalling Sip or clearing its storage removes it from the phone.
What is sent when you use the Ideas board
The Ideas board is optional. The water tracker works without it. When you open the board, Sip connects over HTTPS to Noko Labs' own board service, which runs on Cloudflare and keeps its data in a Cloudflare D1 database. Every request carries the random id described above. Depending on what you do, the server receives:
- Posts: the type (idea or problem), the title and the text you write, plus the Sip version, the Android version number, the phone model and your language setting, so the developer can reproduce problems.
- Comments you write on a post.
- Likes: which posts you liked.
- Test ratings: whether you tried a test version of a change, and your "works" or "broken" rating with any text you add.
Your posts are public
The board service stores posts, comments, likes and ratings in its own database. They are not sent to GitLab or any other site. Everyone who uses Sip can read the posts and comments on the board, so treat them as public. The board is not published as a web page, so search engines do not index it. The phone details sent with a post (Sip version, Android version, model, language) are stored with the post for the developer only; the app does not show them to other people.
Your posts do not show your name. They show a nickname such as "Calm Otter", which the server computes from your random id. The same phone always gets the same nickname, so your posts can be linked to each other. Please do not write your name, email address, health details or anything else personal in a post or comment.
The random id itself is not stored or published. The service turns it into a one-way SHA-256 hash and keeps only that hash next to your posts, comments, likes, the test versions you tried and your ratings, so it can count one like and one rating per phone, and to limit how many posts and comments one phone can send per day.
If a post or comment is offensive or should not be there, tap Report next to it in the app. This opens your email app with a message to nokolabs.dev@gmail.com that names the post or comment. Nothing is sent until you send that email yourself, and the developer reviews each report and removes content that breaks the rules.
Who else handles the data
- Cloudflare runs the board service and its D1 database. Cloudflare may process technical data such as your IP address to deliver and protect the service. The board service code does not store IP addresses.
- Google Play handles installs and test sign-ups under Google's own privacy policy.
Data is not sold and is not used for advertising.
How long data is kept
- Posts, comments, likes, test records and ratings are kept until the developer deletes them, for example after a deletion request or during moderation. There is no automatic expiry.
- A history of status changes for each post (for example "in review" or "shipped") is kept with the post.
- Daily counters used for the post and comment limits are stored per hashed id and day, and are deleted by hand together with your other records when you ask for deletion.
Deleting your data
In the Google Play version of Sip, open Settings and tap "Delete my data". This clears your water log, settings and random id on the phone and opens an email to ask for deletion on the server. Because there is no account, server deletion is done by hand. Email nokolabs.dev@gmail.com with the nickname shown on your posts (for example "Calm Otter") and, if you can, links to or titles of your posts. The developer will delete your posts, comments, likes, ratings and every other record linked to your hashed id from the board database, normally within 30 days. You can also clear Sip's storage on your phone to get a new random id.
Children
Sip is a general audience app and is not directed at children under 13. Children should not post on the Ideas board. If you believe a child has posted personal information, email us and it will be removed.
Changes to this policy
If Sip starts handling data differently, this page will be updated and the effective date above will change. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
